In a rain hit encounter at the Mercantile Cricket Association, Dimo and John Keells Holdings battled it out in a 20 over match up to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Singer-MCA Premier Knockout Tournament 2019.
Batting first Charith Kumarasinghe gave Dimo a flourishing start taking them to 36 runs within the first 4 overs. Dimo lost a few wickets in between the power play overs but kept the momentum which Kumarasinghe led as they reached 133 for the loss of four wickets by the 14th over.
Thanks to some power hitting by Pulina Tharanga Dimo posted a mammoth 199 in their allocated 20 overs. In the bowling department Ishan Jayarathne picked up 3 wickets for 27 whilst Jehan Daniel picked up 2 wickets for 37 runs for John Keells.
Chasing a target of 200 left hand batsman Bhanuka Rajapakse gave John Keells a blistering start but not before Kavishka Anjula’s all-round efforts constrained John Keells to 41 for the loss of 4 wickets in the 4th over, with Anjula picking up 3 wickets.
Bad light saved the day for Dimo just as Jehan Daniel was going well with the bat. Dimo Lanka qualified to the semi finals based on higher points in the league stage.
