Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep is doubtful for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash between South Africa and Sri Lanka on 28th of June (Friday) in Durham.

Pradeep, who has been down with fever, skipped training in the days leading into the match. If the lanky pacie does not recover in time for the game, seamer Lakmal is likely to be taking his place in the playing XI.

“We haven’t heard from the doctors yet, he is going to see a doctor today, and then we will know in the evening what the situation is with him.” Sri Lanka Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha said on the eve of the match.

Earlier in the tournament, Pradeep dislocated his finger during training and took more than a week to recover, but due to washouts against Pakistan and Bangladesh, he didn’t miss any games. The 32-year old right-arm seamer took career-best figures of 4 for 31 against Afghanistan during Sri Lanka’s second game of the competition. In the last game against England, Pradeep bowled well, picking up the final wicket of Mark Wood and returned figures of 1 for 38 from his 10 overs.

As the race for the semi-final spots gets tight, the islanders will aim to pick up vital points against the Proteas, who are already out of the tournament.
