Ruwan Kalpage, Sri Lanka’s interim assistant coach and Piyal Wijetunge, the spin bowling coach, have handed in their resignation letters to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the board confirmed.

According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, Kalpage has received an offer from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to join as fielding coach while Wijetunge too has been offered a position as the spin coach of the Bangladesh side.

SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said the Executive Committee will meet on Tuesday and take a decision whether or not to persuade the duo to stay on in the Sri Lankan setup.

“The ex-co will acknowledge that the letters have been received, and they might decide whether to give some sort of offer to these coaches, if they want them to stay,” de Silva said.

Sri Lanka only recently lost their head coach Paul Farbrace, who was snapped up by England as the assistant coach to Peter Moores. Atapattu then took over as the acting chief coach while Kalpage and Wijetunge were appointed to their respective positions in interim capacity.

Kalpage is likely to remain with with the Sri Lankan team until the end of the series against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka were hoping that Wijetunge would work with Sachithra Senanayake to correct his action. However, considering that he may be unavailable, Jerome Jayaratne, the head of coaching, has been told to help Senanayake, who will undergo a remedial course in Australia this month.
