Five matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs St. Benedict’s College, Coalombo

St. Sebastian’s College managed to win first innings points against St. Benedict’s College in a Group A fixture between the two sides which concluded today at St. Benedict’s College grounds. Sebastian batsmen resumed day two on 161 runs for 6 wickets and declared their first innings at 305 runs for 9 wickets. Hosts began their second innings trailing by 170 runs and posted 240 runs for 8 wickets at stumps on day two. Left arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama was the star of the match as he grabbed 8 wickets for 114 runs in the match.

Wesley College, Colombo vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

Group C fixture between Wesley College and Dharmapala College concluded today at Wesley College grounds. Match ended in a draw but first innings points were won by Wesley College. After being 73 runs for 2 at stumps yesterday, the lads from Pannipitiya were bowled out for 218 runs today. Wesley College began their second innings 82 runs ahead but struggled with the bat as they posted 185 runs for 9 wickets at stumps on day two. Chamindu Samarasinghe picked up 7 wickets for 65 runs for Dharmapala College.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy

Nalanda College completely outplayed Dharmaraja College and registered a comprehensive innings victory. The Group C fixture between the two sides worked off today at Nalanda College grounds. Rajans were bowled out for just 90 runs in their first innings. After being asked to follow on, Rajans showed some improvement with the bat in the second innings posting 182 runs but it was not enough to prevent Nalanda College from clinching an innings victory.

Ananda College managed to record first innings win against strong Trinity line up in their traditional fixture which was worked off today at Ananda College grounds. Ananda skipper won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first on their home ground. Trinity College resumed day two on 55 for 3 and posted only 174 runs for their first innings. Left arm spinner Asel Sigera was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 6 wickets for 51 runs.

Ananda College batted second time in the match and declared their innings at 211 runs for 6 wickets while setting a target of 298 runs to chase for Trinity lions. Right handed batsman Hasitha Boyagoda who sparked at under 19 world cup recently stroked a brisk century for lads from Kandy as they raced away to 160 runs in 22 overs.

Group A fixture between Thurstan College and Dharmasoka College commenced today at Karandeniya College grounds. After being asked to bat first, Sokians posted 284 runs all out for their first innings. Ravindu Rashantha top scored with a ton for lads from down south. In reply, Thurstan batsmen scored 194 runs for 4 wickets at stumps on day one. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
