The girls and boys teams of Sri Lanka had to bow out after the 1st round of the teams’ competition at the 5th Asian Schools Table Tennis Championships in Singapore.
The girls were drawn in group B where they had to face Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore while the boys were also drawn in group B and had to face China, India, Malaysia and Singapore.
The girls’ team lost all four of their matches; to Thailand 3-0, Singapore 3-0, Malaysia 3-0 and Indonesia 3-1. The only win was by Natasha Sandavini who defeated Widya Wulanthika 09/11, 11/09, 11/08, 11/08.
The boys’ team fared much better as they won against Malaysia and Indonesia 3-2 and 3-0 respectively, while also managing to win a game against Table Tennis Kings China in a losing cause of 3-1. That was by Sandesh Nissanka who defeated Lim Zi Ning in four sets; 11/07, 11/13, 11/05, 13/11.
