Colombo Rowing Club secure wins in Calcutta

The 9-member crew of the Colombo Rowing Club managed to win multiple events at the recently concluded 76th ARAE FEARA Regatta held in Calcutta.

The ARAE FEARA Regatta is an annual rowing tournament that compromises of clubs which mainly belong to the countries of the South-East Asian region – namely, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan. Clubs and Institutions from Dubai and Hong-Kong are often seen participating in this tournament as well.

A crew of 18 members represented the Colombo Rowing club at the 75th ARAE FEARA Regatta in Madras last year, and the Lankan club emerged Overall Champions in both the Men’s and Women’s categories.

However, with a much smaller crew, Ruven Weerasinghe and his team managed to secure a position in the victory podium after winning in the Women’s Fours and Sculls, and the Men’s Pair’s categories respectively.

Ishara Abbey clinched the gold medal in the Women’s Sculls 1X, while a team of Davina Koch (Three), Thavisha Attanayake (two), Ishara Abbey (Stroke), Yanina Botejue (bow) and Lasaru Kudaligama (cox) won the Women’s Fours.

Prathap Perera ‘S’ and Suhith Alexander ‘B’ were able to win the bronze medal in the Men’s Pairs.

Amongst the 15 clubs that participated at this Regatta, the Colombo Rowing Club was able to finish at 8th place with a total of 21 points.
