University of Moratuwa vs University of Colombo

The first match of the evening between University of Moratuwa and University of Colombo was concluded by 03 – 01 in favor of University of Moratuwa. UOM played an attacking game throughout the match and was successful to break the defense line of UOC. Even though the Moratuwa boys were rewarded by two penalty strokes, they were not successful enough to convert them into goals because of the good defense line of the Colombo boys. Sticker M.P. Attanayake of UOM was outstanding throughout the match for his incredible style of attacking.

The UOC team played a defending game because of the strong attacking line of the UOM side. The fine passes of Thanuka Tennakoon of UOC were missed by his fellow team players most of the time. However the defending line of UOC was strong enough to protect their side. A.K. Liyanage of UOC, played remarkably well to protect their goal line and the scores read nil at the breather.

After halftime, UOC started to attack but yet again failed to reach the D post as the defenders of UOM were not permitting them to reach and they busted the past and started to work on their own style of attacking again. N.Weerasinghe’s hard hit went out from the goalpost and he was unsuccessful to score a goal for his side. However at the next 20th minute this outstanding attacker scored the first goal in favor of UOM and the scoreboard read one all.  Just after scoring their first goal in the evening, UOM was trying to slowdown the game. The wrong defending style of UOC player, D. Liyanagama resulted in providing a green card and stepping him out from the game and K. H. Warusinghe of UOM was also provided a green card for an unsafe tackle. The first penalty stroke for UOC was not successfully converted but fortunately resulted in their second penalty stroke which was boomingly converted into a goal by Thanuka Tennakoon. But Mora spirit was not left behind by the performance of UOC. They were yet again involved in their uncontrollable style of attacking and D. Amarathunga scored the second goal for his team. When only few minutes were remaining to call off the match, M.S.K. Gunasinghe of UOM scored another goal to make his team victorious in the evening.

Old Anandians vs Old Peterites

The second match of the evening between the Old Anandians and Old Peterites was ended in fine style making the Old Peterites win by 02 – 01. The first penalty stroke of the game was awarded to Old Peterites but Chathura Makola of Old Anandians shattered the pass nicely with his experienced defending skills and had the Old Anandians reaching their goal post and being awarded their first penalty. Even though they were unproductive to score a goal by that penalty, they were lucky enough to be awarded by the second penalty which again was futile. Old Anandians were engaged in a manner of attack but missed number of passes  which would have been converted into goals. After a disappointing play, Rangana Wijerathna of Old Anandians was successful enough in pleasing his team by scoring a goal. For the impish behavior of Minol Jayasundara of Old Peterites, he was given a green card. In Old Peterites’ second penalty, the right extreme missed the ball and the scoreboard read one all in favor of Old Ananadians at the break.

Just after the whistle was blown by the referee for the second half, the Old Anandians started to engage in attacking and was awarded four penalties one after the other for their tactics. Unexpectedly for Old Anandians, the Old Peterites started to assault and they ended up scoring their first goal by Mario Joseph. The exhausted Old Anandians started to be active again in the attacking line but once more missed a number of chances in scoring goals. Nevertheless both the teams were strong enough in assailing and reserving as well. The Old Petes were moreover attacking at the latter part of the game and the referee ended up awarding a goal stroke for Old Petes. The playmaker for Petes, the power packed, Mario Joseph’s astonishing went through and  Abeysekara failed in guarding his goalpost leaving  the Old Petes winners by 02 – 01 yesterday in the evening.
