Sri Lanka national sevens represent and current Navy Sports Club winger, Buddhima Piyarathana, was voted the winner of ‘ThePapare Most Popular Player for the year 2019’.
The 22-year-old collected a total of 4523 votes, across both online and web voting, coming to top of the list. In second place was Sudam Sooriyarachchi of CH & FC who collected a total of 3058 votes. Kandy’s Buwaneka Udangamuwa came in 3rd with 2669.
ThePapare’s Most Popular Rugby Player award recognizes the fan favourite in the local rugby arena and provides the platform for its enthusiastic rugby fraternity to deicide the stand out player.
Voting for the Most Popular Club Rugby Player commenced early in January and the fans were given the opportunity to choose the player of their choice.
22-year-old Piyarathana has had an impressive season with Navy Sports Club despite the teams below par performance in the Dialog Rugby League. This season, the speedster has scored 7 tries under his name including two hat-tricks.
