30th Sri Lanka National Rowing Championships

The annual rowing event that challenges the oarsmen and oarswomen to bring out their endurance on the two kilo meter course is about to begin today with an opening ceremony headed by the ARASL President, for the 30th consecutive year at Diyawanna lake.

The regatta is scheduled for three days from 24th to 26th, with the finals of all the races and the award ceremony scheduled for Saturday the 26th of September.

The races in the regatta will be held in men’s and women’s category separately. Teams from Ananda College, Nalanda College, Royal College, S.Thomas College, St.Joseph’s College, Gateway International, Asian International School, University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, Kothalawala Defense University, Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force, will be participating in the men’s category for the racing of the following boats.

Scull (1X) Open, Over 18,Under 18,School Boy
Pair (2-) Open, Over 18, Under 18
Double scull (2X) Open, Over 18, Under 18
Coxless four (4-) Open
Coxed Four (4+) Over 18, Under 18

Teams from Ladies College, Visaka Vidyalaya, Bishops College, University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Colombo Rowing Club, and Bologda Rowing club will be participating in the women’s category.

Coxed Four (4+) Over 18, Under 18

The heats through the semi-finals of pairs and double scull events in both the men’s and women’s category will be held on the 24th and the sculls and fours will be on the 25th. The last day will have the final races in all the categories. The scenic location in Diyawanna Oya with a view of the Waters edge and the intense race between the strong teams will be treat for the viewers for the next three days.
