Two of the youngest yet most talented athletes will man Sri Lanka at the prestigious 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia next month. Reigning National Squash Champions Ravindu Laksiri and Mihiliya Methsarani will take flight to Gold Coast to compete in a two-member legion at the Squash event representing team Sri Lanka.

Having been crowned the 2016 and 2017 National Champions in the Sri Lanka National Squash Championship, Ravindu and Mihiliya are two promising athletes of the sport aiming to go the distance in the international arena. The two will take charge against some of the more experienced campaigners in Australia but will give it their all in the battle to gain glory for their mother land.

Both Ravindu and Mihiliya will carry vast local exposure going into this year’s games along with a few international appearances – Asian Team Championship. This will be the big break in both youngsters’ careers and will look at pouncing at this golden opportunity to start their international singles run on a high.

Ravindu Laksiri will play directly in the Men’s singles round of 64 meeting Fiji’s own Romit Parshottam in the first round. In the same format as the Men’s, Mihiliya will face world rank 11th Amanda Landers-Murphy in the first round. Mihiliya will face tough fate against the New Zealander Murphy but with luck and confidence, Methsarani will look to pull through a miracle win to advance to the higher stages.
