The 2nd match of the U19 Tri-Series between Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh was played today (20th March), as Sri Lanka faced Bangladesh at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
After deciding to bat first, Bangladesh got a decent start with Chowdhury Md Rizwan and Jishan Alam scoring 38 and 40 respectively before Malsha Tharupathi dismissed both of them. Skipper Ahrar Amin top scored with a half-century for Bangladesh.
Apart from that, no other Bangladeshi batter contributed much as they hoped they would, with them losing the wickets at regular intervals. At the end of 50 overs, Bangladesh U19 managed to post 229/8. Right-arm leg spinner from Richmond College Malsha Tharupathi was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka U19, with figures of 10-0-35-3.

A target of 230 was not looking threatening for the young Sri Lankan batters, as Hirun Kapurubandara and Sineth Jayawardene added 95 runs for the opening wicket. Kapurubandara was the first to depart after scoring 52. Sineth Jayawardene was the top scorer with a sensational hundred as he scored 101 off 122 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes.
Hiran Jayasundara fell 2 runs short of the target after scoring 35. However, Malsha Tharupathi hit first-ball six to take Sri Lanka home as they chased down the target after losing 5 wickets, with more than 5 overs to spare. With the ball, Jishan Alam’s effort of 3/31 was not enough to beat Sri Lanka.
