WUHAN (2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship) - DPR Korea played their first international game in more than a decade, but marked their return to FIBA Asia events in style.
The Sri Lankan Women`s National Basketball team will take wings to China on Wednesday to compete for Supremacy in Asia. The FIBA Asian Championship for women will be conducted from 29th August – 9th September in Wuhan, China. Here’s some insight into the team before the clash.
Sri Lanka currently stands second in South Asia; second only to the neighbouring giants, India. The Lions managed to beat the next door neighbors quite convincingly in the shortest form of the game (3x3) where Sri Lanka Reds beat Team India 21-14 over the last weekend here at home.
The SABA 3x3 zone qualifier for the 3x3 World Tour was held during the weekend at the Gateway College, Basketball complex. Team India winning the championship qualified themselves to participate in Asian Championships to be held in China.
The national Basketball team breaking ground came second to take silver medal in the South Asian Basketball Championships. The championship which is the qualifier for the Asian Championships to be held later this year, was worked off from the 3rd -5th July 2015 in Bangalore, India. The tournament which concluded today, saw Sri Lanka losing to India in the final 93-44.
