Two teams known for their attacking football met at Molineux during match day 3 of the 2018/19 Premier League season. While the reigning champions; Manchester city looked to continue their killer form which they had showcased in their early fixtures, Wolverhampton wolves were still in need of registering their first premier league victory since February 2012.

The Wolves started the game positively with a series of counter attacks. The hosts orchestrated the first attack of the game as Doherty provided a cross into the middle from the left in the fourth minute. Kompany, who is gracing the premier league pitch for the 250th time conceded a free kick for the visitors with a foul on Jimenez in the tenth minute of the game. Neves was unable to get success of the free kick.

Within minutes Neves found himself fouled by Kompany again for which the Belgium international was punished with a yellow card.

The first clear chance for Manchester City came in the 16th minute from Aguero, but Patricio was able to quench the threat by making a save at his near post.

Manchester city was able to hold on to the ball for most of the first half, but it was the Wolves who seemed more threatening having hit the woodwork several times. Neither of the sides was able to find the net as the referee signaled for half time.

Early in the second half of the game, Bernado Silva won a free kick for the visitors after being fouled by Jota in a dangerous position. Wolves skipper Cody headed out the subsequent free kick to give away a corner.

City looked more dominant until Costa sneaked through the Manchester defense and burst a shot which was denied by Ederson.

The hosts drew first blood in the 58th minute as Boly whipped in a cross to the middle that resulted from a play between Moutinho and Neves. The protest by David Silva in the aftermath of the goal earned him a yellow card.

City kept on piling pressure on the Wolves as the atmosphere inside the Molineux grew significantly. Laporte became the savior for the Manchester outfit as he fired a header past Patricio in the 70th minute. Gundogan provided the assistance through a superb free kick.

The 71st minute saw an appeal for a penalty as Aguero went down, but it was turned down by the referee. The Wolves managed to hold on their tight defense as the match ended in a tie.
