The final round of matches of the Women’s Provincial Championship were held at the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Grounds earlier today. Both games that were played had no bearing on the finalists as both Western Province and North Central Province had secured their places in the final with two wins in as many games.

Southern Province vs Central Province

The winless teams faced off in a dead rubber 1st earlier in the day. Central Province won the toss and unsurprisingly chose to bat 1st. Buoyed by Yasoda Mendis’ 61, they managed 115 off their 20 overs, leaving Southern somewhat of a stiff target.

Southern Province threatened to overthrow the total but ultimately fell short by 7 runs as they finished on 108/8 in their 20 overs. Interestingly it was Sri Lanka discards Yasoda Mendis and Sripali Weerakkody who starred for the Central team.

 Scores

Central Province: 115/6 (20) – Yashoda Mendis 61, Ruchini Samarasena 2/26

Southern Province: 108/8 (20) – Reshani Perera 34, Sripali Weerakkody 2/19, Udeshika Prabodani 2/21

Result: Central Province won by 7 runs

Western Province vs North Central Province

Western came out on what was a dress rehearsal of the final that is scheduled to be played on Sunday. North Central won the toss and managed just 101 in their 20 overs with Nilakshi De Silva and Dinusha Hindagoda making 20s.

It was a tight chase for the Westerners but Hansima Karunaratne anchored the innings, pacing he knock to precision to take them to a win in the very last over.

 Scores

North Central Province: 101/8 (20) – Nilakshi Silva 24*, Dinusha Hidagoda 20, Sachini Sewwandi 3/14

Western Province: 102/8 (19.3) – Hansima Karunarathna 41*, Ama Kanchana 2/10, Niluka Karunarathne 2/31

Result: Western Province won by 2 wickets
