Royal, Vidyarathna and Lumbini clinch the titles

Blue, Gold and Blue Volleyball Championship concluded on the 25th of June with Royal College (U20 Boys), Vidyarathna College (U18 & U16 Boys) and Lumbini Maha Vidyalaya (U20 Girls) grabbing the championships.

The 11th Blue, Gold & Blue Western Province Invitation Schools’ Volleyball Championship organized by the Royal College Volleyball Advisory and Management Committee (RCVAMC) under the patronage of the Royal College Union was worked off on the 24th and 25th  of June at the Royal College Sports Complex. The tournament was conducted under three age groups for boys – U16, U18 & U20 and U20 for the girls.

A 25 member pool was selected for training ahead of the 5th Asian Schools’ Boys Volleyball Championship in Isfahan..

U20 Boys Final   Royal College, Colombo was crowned as the Champions of the U20 division as they defeated Bandaranayake College, Gampaha in the finals by 3-2. (22-25, 25-11, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12) Bandaranayaka College, Gampaha got off to a decent start as they won the first set of the finals after a tight game by 22-25. But, the Royalists coming back to their rhythm dominated both the second and the third set of the match as they won both the by a huge margin. The scores of the two sets were recorded as 25-11 and 25-18.   But then it was the boys from Gampaha who turned the tables on Royalists winning the crucial fourth set taking the game to the deciding final set. The score was recorded as 21-25.   Continuing the form of the fourth set, Bandaranayaka College, Gampaha got off to a good start to the final set winning the first few points of the set. Although they were just few points away from making an upset, Royalists put up an exceptional performance in the latter part of the set as they clinched the title winning the final set by 15-12.   U18 Boys Final   Vidyarathna College, Horana defeated Royal College, Colombo in the finals by 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 29-31, 25-16) to win the U18 boys championship.     After an exciting performance from both teams, it was Vidyarathna College who came on top in the first two sets of the game as they won both the sets by 25-23.

Vietnam will host the SMM 2017 “Binh Son Refining Petrochemical” Asian Men’s Club Volleyball ..

The third set of the game was much more competitive as both teams scored back to back points making the set open for both. It was a must win situation for the Royalists to stay in the game. However, they won the set in the end by 29-31 taking the game to the fourth set.

But, Vidyarathna College won the fourth set comfortably by 25-16 to win the championship.

U16 Boys Final

It was again Vidyarathna College, Horana who defeated Royal College, Colombo in the U16 finals by 2-0 to grab the championship.

Vidyarathna College won both sets without much trouble to win the championship. The scores were recorded as 25-18 and 25-20.

U20 Girls Final

Lumbini Maha Vidyalaya put forward a dominating performance defeating Agamathi Balika Vidyalaya, Panadura by 2-0 in the finals. The scores were recorded as 25-11 and 25-16.
