As a like for like replacement, left-arm pacer Usman Khan Shinwari has been added to the Pakistan squad for the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after Mohammad Amir was ruled out due to a stress injury on his right shin.

Amir picked up the injury during the opening day’s play of the day-night Test in Dubai and following scans, he was advised rest for two to three weeks.

The 23-year-old Usman, who represents Habib bank in Pakistan’s first-class competition, recently picked up five-wicket haul to bowl his side to an innings victory against Rawalpindi.

Usman has already played four T20Is for Pakistan, although he hasn’t quite impressed yet in international colours, picking up a solitary wicket so far. Having debuted against Sri Lanka during the two-match T20I series in UAE in December 2013, Usman was out of the reckoning for a lengthy period before featuring in two T20Is in the recently-concluded series against World XI in Lahore.

Usman had also played for Karachi Kings in the 2017 edition of Pakistan Super League in which he had picked up six wickets at an average of 33 with an economy of 7.61. The left-arm pacer has decent numbers in List-A cricket, having picked up 30 wickets at 26.63 with three four-wicket hauls.

The five-match series gets underway from October 13 in Dubai. The second and third ODIs, scheduled for October 16 and 18 and will be played in Abu Dhabi following which the teams will move to Sharjah for the final two matches on October 20 and 23.
