The 2nd tier of the Singer Schools U19 Cricket tournament 2019/20 had 17 completed games during the first week of February, with 8 of them producing results.
The long week of cricket kicked off with a win for St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya over Bandaranayake College in their traditional encounter. The highlight of the game was the stunning ton scored by Ayon Hesara of the winning team. His unbeaten knock fell short of a well-deserved double century by just 8 runs. He also scored another ton in their 2nd game of the week in the Group D fixture against Sri Jayawardenepura Maha Vidyalaya.
Sandaruwan Chinthaka of Galahitiyawa Central College also amassed two tons during the week, with both his centuries coming in the same game against Christ King College. With scores of 111 and 168 respectively in the two innings, Chinthaka also picked up 5 wickets (3 & 2).

The final week of January witnessed the completion of 14 games in the Singer U19 Division II Cricket……
Six more centuries were made, bringing the total number of centuries during the week to a good 10. Randula Dasun and Sri Lanka U19 spinner Rohan Sanjaya piled up tons in the same innings in their massive win over Kegalu Vidyalaya, while Maduranga Dissanayake and Rashmika Nonis also scored match-winning tons for Dudley Senanayake Central College and Christ King College respectively. The remaining two tons were hit by Navundu Pahasara and Lakindu Chamodya for Revatha College and Rahula College, respectively in drawn games.
The most successful bowler of the week was Manuja Dulneth of Rahula College, as he picked up 22 wickets in 3 innings during the week. His 14 wickets (7+7) against Henegama Central College steered them to victory at the Matara Uyanwatte Stadium, while he picked up another 8 against Piliyandala Central College later in the same venue.
Despite failing to bowl their teams all the way to wins, Kaveesh Sathsara of P. De S. Kularathna College, Dilhara Nanayakkara of Holy Cross College, Chamod Sandaru of Piliyandala Central College and Lakshan Sudesh of Revatha College were able to pick 10 wickets or more in a single match with figures of 12/99, 10/92, 10/117 and 10/128 respectively.
The week also produced a staggering number of 5-wicket hauls as the 17 games saw 29 of them including 5 instances of match-bags which had 10 or more wickets.
The most unsuccessful team of the week was Bandaranayake College Gampaha as they were also beaten by Sri Sumangala College after losing the opening game of the week. St. John’s College, Jaffna and St. Peter’s College, Negombo also registered wins.
