Two games in Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament were worked out today, 6th November; both games concluded as draws.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo

The traditional fixture between Nalanda College and St. Peter’s College was concluded today (06) at the Nalanda College grounds where the visitors earned honours as they won the first innings of the game though the contest ended as a fascinating draw.

In the first innings, left arm spinner Kanishka Maduwantha shone with the ball for the Peterites as he picked up 5 wickets to restrict Nalanda College for 166 after the hosts were asked to bat first.

The visitors declared their reply at 241 for 7 in 86 overs, managing a first innings lead of 75 runs. 17 year old left hander Nipunaka Fonseka top scored with a fine 69 for St. Peter’s.

Only having 31 overs to survive, Nalanda lost 6 wickets but hung on to a draw at stumps.

Zahira College, Colombo vs Richmond College, Galle

The visitors, Zahira College won the toss and elected to bowl first and proved their decision by wrapping up the Richmondites for just 114 at the Galle International Stadium. Vishan Ruvin recorded a fifer to his name giving away just 17 runs. 

But the Zahira batsmen couldn’t hang on to advantage given by their bowlers as they were all dismissed for 92 thanks to a brilliant spell of bowling by Richmondite Kalpa Nethsara who took 4 wickets. After claiming a slim 22 run lead, Richmond batsmen Dimuth Sandaruwan and Tharinda Nirmal posted fifties to set a target of 200 for Zihara College. At stumps, the visitors were 90/5 and the game ended as a draw, handing Richmond College a first innings win.
