St. Joseph Vaz College met Lumbini College in a group ‘D’ game of the Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament today, 21st November, at Air Force grounds in Katunayake.

St. Joseph Vaz College yet again rode on one man’s success to keep the team alive. Lumbini won the toss and inserted St. Joseph Vaz College to bat first. Except for the skipper Nipun Dananjaya, who flew in from Bangladesh yesterday after fulfilling national duty with Sri Lanka U19s to straight away walk into this game, none other batsmen really stood up to the standards.
Dananjaya scored 93 runs while the team fell apart for 229 runs. The next best score was 27 runs by Nethmal de Soyza.
Young left-arm spinner from Lumbini College, Yasiru Yugath bagged 6 wickets proving his worth despite being 15 years old. He lead the bowling unit whilst off-spinner Thashika Nirmal supported with 2 wickets to his name.
Lumbini College batted for about an hour in the day scoring 51 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. The game will resume tomorrow for day-two.
