Shalin and Ravindu guide S. Thomas’ into quarter-finals

S. Thomas’ College registered a comprehensive victory over Ananda College in their Pre-Quarter  Final encounter worked off today at Mount Lavinia and qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Limited Over Cricket Tournament 2018/19.

The S. Thomas’ College skipper Sithara Hapuhinna won the toss and elected to bat first in their own backyard. The hosts got off to a great start and put on a mammoth score of 333 runs on the board in the allotted 50 overs.

Opening batsman Shalin de Mel thrashed the Ananda bowlers all over the park, scoring 145 runs off 122 balls including 14 fours and 9 sixes. The number three batsman Ravindu de Silva gave him good support at the other end, scoring 92 runs off 111 balls with 7 fours and a six. De Mel and De Silva put on a 230-run partnership off 209 balls for the second wicket.

Sudeepa Agulugaha was the pick of the bowlers for Ananda College as he grabbed 4 wickets for 66 runs. Chasing 334 runs to win, the visitors were in deep trouble as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for just 73 runs in 18.4 overs. Kishan Munasinghe, Kalana Perera and Dellon Peiris shared 7 wickets between them.
