Zahira College won against President’s College on Sunday (11th November) while the traditional battle between Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya and Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda ended in a draw today (12th November). A Group ‘B’ fixture between Nalanda College and St. Peter’s College also got underway today.

The game is being worked off at the St. Peter’s Grounds in Bambalapitiya. Nalanda College was put to bat first by the host, who won the toss. Though Nalanda seemed to be at a spot of bother initially, skipper Lakshitha Manasinghe made sure that the team is safe overnight with an anchoring knock of 78 runs. The next best score was the 26 runs by Dilhara Polgampola. Pacer Santhush Gunathilaka was the pick of the bowling with figures of 3 wickets for 10 runs.

In reply, St. Peter’s were at 27 for no loss after the 7 overs of batting they had on day one. The game will resume tomorrow for day two.

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

The game was played at the Dharmapala College Grounds. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Hasitha Rajapakshe (45) and Lohan Soyza (40) both got starts for Dharmasoka but failed to convert it into big ones. None of the other batsmen shined as Dharmasoka slipped to a 131 runs in their first innings. Chamindu Samarasinghe and Dilshan de Silva bagged 4 wickets each.

Dharmapala in reply were in an even more pathetic situation as they were scraped off for just 119 runs. Vihanga Gunarathne (34) was the top-scorer for Dharmapala College while Lohan Soyza and Lakshan Dananjaya picked up 3 wickets each for Dharmasoka College.

Kavindu Nadeeshan of Dharmasoka College scored the only fifty of the team to take Dharmasoka to 121 runs in their second innings. It was once again Chamindu Samarasinghe who impressed with the ball as he recorded a fifer for 37 runs.

Chasing a 133-runs for victory, Dharmapala College almost got their fighting back from their first innings deficit. But, there wasn’t enough time left in the game as they only managed a quick 90 runs in 25 overs bowled and the game ended in a draw.

President’s College who won the toss and decided to field first. Zahira College Colombo posted a comfortable 224 runs on board for the first innings. Yasith Nirmal top-scored with 40 runs.

President’s College were able to score only 162 runs for their first innings. Akila Roshan hit 45 runs while Imthiyaz Salsa picked up 5 wickets for 61 runs.

Zahira College batsmen did a decent job once again as they added another 145 runs to their total to set a target of 207 for President’s College. Yasith Nirmal once again topped the batting chart with 35 runs while Dinith Nelumdeniya bagged a fifer.

Then began the massacre of the President’s College batsmen as Mohammad Kalif-led Zahirian bowlers ripped them apart. Kalif bagged a fifer for just 7 runs while Mohammad Rifath and Imthiyaz Salsa picked the rest of the wickets. President’s College were bowled out for just 22 runs in their second innings.
