Sri Lankan’s top leading squash players Ravindu Laksiri and Fathoum Issadeen took major honors winning the Men’s and Women’s open titles at the SLS Open Squash Championship held at the Air Force squash courts yesterday (17th May)

The SLS Open squash championship is the first open ranking tournament of the year that attracts many young talents from around the island. The tournament hosted junior events starting from the girls and boys under 9 category all the way to the Over 50 veterans’ category. The best of the best ranking players play across 7 days, all vying for the ultimate Men’s and Women’s titles.
Chieng Mai Cup contender Ravindu Laksiri and Asian individual championship contender Fathoum Issadeen proved their class once again, finishing on top of the two open events. Ravindu Laksiri went up against doubles partner Shameel Wakeel and won comfortably (3-1), while fathoum Issadeen was faced 17-year old school mate Sameera Deen as she came out victorious in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Gihan Suwaris defeated Mohamed Hakeem in the Men’s Open 3rd– 4th play off while in the Women’s Open, Yeheni Kuruppu defeated Devmini Gallage in the 3rd– 4th playoff.
D. Gallage was able to clinch her maiden title in the Girls, under 19 category defeating Sameera Deen in the final. M.Wood defeated DHT Randima in the Boys’ Under 19 category to take home the junior title.
