Trinity overcame a stubborn Antonian team to win the one day by 47 runs at Asgiriya earlier today. The Trinity skipper Shanogeeth who won the toss elected to bat first like he had done in the two day centenary big match.

Antonians started well with the new ball taking two early scalps leaving Trinity 17-2 at the end of 4 overs. Shanogeeth was dismissed for a duck by the burly Antonian fast bowler Virajitha Jayasinghe. Hasintha Boyagoda and Kalana De Soysa then put on a 53 run partnership. As both these batsmen were blossoming crisply Mohommed Abser trapped Boyagoda leg before for 29 runs. This left Trinity 70 for 3.

Antonians who had their tail up dented Trinity yet again with 3 more scalps in quick succession with only 3 runs being added to the score board leaving them 6 for 82 and in big trouble.

Trevon Perciwell and Thiyangaraja Banugoben then added 48 runs for the 7th wicket. However the key performer for the Trinitians was Thisaru Dilshan who scored an unbeaten 49 runs to set Antonians with a reasonable target of 200 runs.

Virajitha Jayasinghe was the pick of the bowlers for the Antonians. He had figures of 3 for 25 runs. Satheesh Wickramarachchi and Mohommed Alavi took two wickets each for 25 and 41 runs respectively while Mohommed Abser, Diyon Stewart and Thamasana Abeykoon took a wicket apiece.

The Antonian reply was given hope early when two of the catches were dropped by the Trinity slip cordon. However eventually Thisaru Dilshan the hero for Trinity with bat took the important first wicket of Mohommed Abser who was on 13. Trinity took regular wickets at vital situations to force Anthony’s onto the back foot. However the real big partnership for them came for the 5th and 7th wickets where they managed to put on 36 runs apiece.

Janidu Himsara was the only batsman who looked settled in the middle as the other batsman fell around him one by one. He managed to score 32 runs while Mohommed Alfar who was dropped scored 29 runs. Satheesh Wickramaarachchi and Diyon Stewart chipped in with 20 runs apiece.

Hasitha Boyagoda was the man who caused difficulties with his off spinners claiming 3 wickets for 26 runs. All the bowlers were among wickets for Trinity today as Kalana De Soysa picked up 2 for 18. The rest of the bowlers chipped in with a wicket apiece. The Antonians were finally bundled out for 153 runs at the end of the 47th over.

Thisaru Dilshan was awarded the man of the match for his unbeaten 49 runs and the vital bowling display at the top of the innings.
