St. Joseph’s College vs S. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia

The traditional two-day encounter between St. Joseph’s College and S. Thomas College was worked off at Darley road with the hosts put to bat first. The Josephians lost a couple of opening wickets as left arm Kalana Perera gave the Joes early headaches. Dineth Jayakodi steadied the Josephian ship with a valiant fifty to take St. Joseph’s to 113 for the loss of 3 wickets by lunch.

The Thomians eventually caused some huge upsets in the Joes batting line up with some discipline bowling. St Joseph’s were struggling at 223 for the loss of 8 wickets by tea with Lakshan Gamage batting strong at 40*. A valiant 9th wicket stand helped St. Joseph’s go pass the 250-run mark as the Josephians declared their inning at 266 for 9. Dulash Perera struck early blows to leave the Thomians at 64 for the loss of two wickets at stumps.

Nalanda College vs Zahira College

After defeating President’s College Kotte in an outright victory last week, the Nalandians riding high on confidence chose to open the batting on home turf. Avishka Perera gave Nalanda College a solid foundation scoring 61 to take Nalanda to 122 for the loss of two wickets by the 29th over. The Nalandian dominance was short lived as Imitias Slasa spoiled the party picking up 4 important wickets that of Perera. Thereafter, Nalanda stumbled to 176 for the loss of 5 wickets. Slasa continued his impressive spell adding three more wickets to his tally as Nalanda College stuttered to 229 for the loss of 9 wickets with Lakitha Rasanjana guiding the Nalanda tail with a cautious fifty. Jithesh Wasala’s late innings blitz took the Nalandians to 290. Zahira College were 35 for the loss of one wicket at stumps.

Trinity College Vs Wesley College

The mediocre 2018/19 season seemed to come to an end for Trinity College Kandy as they started off proceedings in style thanks to some exceptional batting display by Shane Gunathilaka and Abishek Anandakumar. The boys from Campbell Park struggled to bother the Trinitian batsmen as the pair put on a steady 2nd wicket partnership to take Trinity College to 201 for the loss of one wicket by the 46th over, scoring at an average of over four runs an over.

Movin Subasinghe finally found some magic for Wesley College picking up two wickets. The Trintians recovered very quickly as they continued to cruise at 268 for the loss of 4 wickets. The Kandy lads eventually declared at 293 for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of the 64th over. Batting second Wesley College suffered an early blow as they looked to rebuild the innings at 13 for the loss of 1 wicket. The wickets kept tumbling for Wesley as they ended the day’s proceedings on 105 for the loss of six wickets with only Shehan Dangalla showing some resistance with the bat. Right arm off-spinner Kavishka Senadeera picked up three quick wickets for Trinity College.

Dharmaraja College vs Mahanama College

Elsewhere, Dharmaraja College Kandy played Mahanama College in a group C fixture. After choosing to bat first Dharmaraja College were in all sorts of trouble at 136 for the loss of 8 wickets by the 50th over. Kavishka Perera and Lahiru Kavinda were the chief destroyers for Mahanama College bagging three wickets apiece, as the Rajan tail tried to show some resistance with the bat. The Mahanama bowlers wrapped up the innings in the 60th over and were off to a flying start thanks to some crafty shots by Pawantha Weerasinghe taking Mahanama to 41 for no loss by the end of the 11th over. Weerasinghe raced his way to an unbeaten 82 with Mahanama College in a commanding position at 109 for no loss.

Richmond College vs St. Thomas College, Matara.

The Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium in Suriyawewa hosted another Singer under 19 Group D encounter between Richmond College Galle and S. Thomas’ College Matara. Batting first Richmond College slowly but steadily kept the scoreboard ticking with Thaveesha Abishek playing an anchor innings for the Richmondites. Sachira Rashmika caused some early trouble for the Richmond batsmen.

The scorecard stood at 154 for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of the 50th over with Abishek not out on 51. Richmond College was eventually bowled out for 198 in the 68th over with Thaveesha Abishek unbeaten on 82. Richmond College was bowled out two short of 200 with Jeshanthika Jayaweera leading the S. Thomas’ unit plucking 4 wickets. The Thomians were in a spot of bother at 23 for the loss of 2 in their first innings. The Thomians struggled with the bat losing half their side at a dangerously rapid pace ending the day with just 60 for the loss of 5 wickets.
