Left-handed Arjuna Jayasinghe smashed a brilliant century as last year’s league runner-up Trinity College, Kandy got off to a winning start in the new 2014/15 schools cricket season when they beat President’s College, Kotte by an innings and 73 runs in their under 19 division 1 match played at Asgiriya Stadium over the weekend.

Left-arm leg spinner S Shanogeeth was the chief wrecker in the first innings as he grabbed 5 wickets to rattle President’s College to 128 with only Navod Kalansuriya making a telling contribution with 42 runs.

Trinity College in their batting essay was propelled by a blazing knock by Arjuna Jayasinghe. He scored 147 in 131 balls with 19 fours and a six while Naveen Ekanayake chipped in with 30 runs. Chamod Wickramasuriya bowled well for Presidets with a five wicket haul.

The boys from Kotte failed to impress with the bat once again as they were bundled out for 77 handing the first outright win for the mighty lions from Kandy. Seam bowling partners, Lahiru Kumara and Pramodya Abeykoon shared 3 wickets apiece for Trinity in the 2nd innings while Wasika Boteju and Nethmina Kodippilli made slow 20’s in a losing cause for President’s College.
