The Division 2 Group A matches’ final wrap up.

Colombo B taking on Jaffna kicked off an unusual start for the division 2 Group ‘A’. Being an outstation team Jaffna was very opportunistic of taking on the A group competition.

Yet the huge tension back fired; the first match was a loss for them by 32 points against (60-28). This was common in Jaffna’s spell against strong teams – losing at huge point margins – but they were able to score some stunning victories against CIS (53-34), Vazians (69-60) and Reins (82-30). Among the losses, matches against RBC and Buffalos were highlights apart from Colombo B. For Jaffna taking part in the tournament was ultimately a zero sum gain.

Among the strong performing teams Colombo B was taking the lead with no losses. Yet ironically, taking down CIS, a team who lost to Jaffana was a close a match. Final scores were marginal: 42-48. The rest of the matches were huge wins. The biggest lead was a showdown against the Reins; a lead by 61 points while Reins only made 21 points in the whole game. A contrary performance to that of Colombo bulls was that of the Reins. Including the above mentioned loss, their struggle had been fruitless all of the time. Losses were ranging from 52 point losses to a minimum of 18 points proving they were not quite a fit for the division.

Moving back to the highlighting performances, Buffalos managed to reach the end of the tournament with only two losses- Colombo B and CIS. Ironically they were not able to beat CIS, though CIS’s overall performance was as good enough in performance to the Buffalos. For example, CIS was beaten by Jaffna by a 19 points while CIS managed to win over the mighty Buffalos by ten points. Jaffna, RBC and Vazians were the victories for Buffaloes while Reins walked off the game.

RBC too had a very similar performance to that of Buffalos. They had two losses and four victories as well. But these wins did not come in easy: beating CIS by just 5 points, and a taking receiving a walk-over by the Vazians. However, their performance against Jaffna was remarkable. Jaffna was driven down by 16 points. Though it was very obvious that the match between RBS and Reins was the most entertaining with RBC taking a 31 point lead the match was on fire.
All in all Colombo B stood out in the A group matches with the highest number of bonus points.
