Technical officers to be felicitated for 50 years of service

The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) will be holding an awards ceremony for the technical officials at the Sports Ministry Auditorium on the 10th of December with the participation of the Hon. Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara.

Technical officials, Mr. K L S Wijedasa, Mr. M T H Perera, Mr. V T Sivalingam, Mr. Austin A. Fernando, Mrs. I P Dissanayake, Mrs. Shanthi Aba, who have all served the field of athletics for over 50 years, will be honored at the ceremony with a special felicitation.

Speaking to ThePapare.com, Chairman of the technical committee Mr. G L S Perera stated that “Technical officials are one of the main components at any competition or meet as they are the people who oversee judging, coordinating and conducting the events so that the athletes are able to take part in their competitions without any hindrance. These dedicated individuals do a thankless job due to their love of sports. We will be awarding certificates and gifts to the technical officials who have successfully passed the various courses that were conducted during the year. We believe that this will further motivate the officials and most importantly they need to be updated that we receive from International Association of Athletic Federations from time to time”

The AASL has conducted various levels of technical official exams throughout the year where 18 have received accreditation as National technical officers, 18 qualified as level 01 officers, 29 as level 02 officers, 47 as level 03 officers and 238 as level 04 officers Island wide. All the successful officials will receive their certificates at the ceremony which enables the officials to officiate in IAAF events internationally as well.
