Tamil Union, the reigning Premier League champions from last season come into the 2016/17 season with a solid squad capable of defending the title they won last year.

The downside of possessing such a rich list of resources is that Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club will be minus a whole host of big name players who are on international duty, including the likes of Suranga Lakmal, Dhananjaya De Silva and Rangana Herath.

Bit of History

Tamil Union can trace its history back to the 19th century and have the privilege of being in possession of an International Cricket ground in the P. Sara Oval.  Tamil Union’s Premier League Championship run last season came after a long wait of 65 years. The most illustrious player to grace the club in the past is undoubtedly none other than legend Muttiah Muralitharan.

Key Players

Kithruwan Vithanage will be leading the Tamil Union outfit this season. He has played all three formats for Sri Lanka but a fall from grace has meant that he is still looking to work his way up the pecking order once again. He will be one of the key batsman for Tamil Union this season.

Former Royalist Ramith Rambukwella, is tipped to make an impact with his off spin this time around after having a decent 2015/16 season. Having picked up 16 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 37.12 he will be hoping to better his wickets tally this time around.

New boys

Left arm fast-medium bowler Disnaka Manoj is a new face at the club this season. Dulanjana Mendis, the left arm spinner started his first class career at Navy sports club and now has made the switch to Tamil Union. Ishara Prashan made his debut last season for the club and will be aiming to impress this time around. Charuka Raveen another debutant this season will be seeking to impress in his first season.

Coaching staff

A man who spent most of his days at SSC, Kapila Weerasinghe, will be the head coach at Tamil Union this time around with his deputy being Manjula Priyantha. Weerasinghe was at the helm last season when the club tasted success and will be eager to repeat the feat. Mahesh Bopage will be the manager this season.
