Nipun Sumanasinghe stars as St. Joseph’s College, Colombo dominated the drawn game against Trinity College, Kandy in a Singer-cup traditional encounter which was worked off today at Darley Road.

Resuming on 124 for 1 the Josephians went on to score 357 for 6 in 74 overs as they declared their innings in a commanding position in reply to 264 which was made by the visitors earlier in the game. Stylish Left-hander Nipun Sumanasinghe amassed 158 runs off 186 balls, while Cameron Duruge and Jehan Fernandopulle guided the home team with half-tons.

Vimukthi Nethmal chipped in with a four wicket haul for the lads from Kandy. However the visitors put up a fighting effort in the second innings as they ended up on 180 for 4 wickets thanks to Chanuka Bandara who stroked 72 runs.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia took major honours against Wesley College in a traditional encounter which concluded today in Mount Lavinia. Resuming on 24 for 1 the visitors got knocked over for 190 inside 70 overs in reply to 306 which was made by the Thomians earlier in the game.

Vice-captain Jason De Silva and middle order batsman Thilina Perera contributing with two half tons, while left-arm seamer Kalana Perera and Dinura Gunawardana claimed four wickets a piece for the home team.

The Thomians were 102 for 1 in the second innings as Bhagya Dissanayake made an unbeaten half-ton at close of play.

Mahinda College vs Dharmaraja College

Dharmaraja College, Kandy posted 188 for 5 in 74 overs in their group A game against Mahinda College, Galle which began today at Dharmaraja grounds. Niwantha Herath steadied the ship for the hosts with an unbeaten 59 and he was ably supported by Dulaj Bandara with 46 valuable runs.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
