St. Thomas Boys Matale and Seethadevi Balika emerge as hockey champs

The Blue & Gold Hockey Sevens organized by Royal College came to an end today with St. Thomas Boys College Matale and Seethadevi Balika clinching the prime trophies for the girls and boys sections today.

This was the 14th time the hockey tournament was taking place at the Royal College Grounds.

St. Thomas Matale secured 3 points to nil in a game that went down to a penalty shootout against Joseph Vaz College.

In the girls finals, favourites Seethadevi Balika of Kandy won the match 1-0 against Sangamittha Matale.

In the cup category, Nalanda College came third with 3 to nil having defeated Prince of Wales College. Yashodara Balika came third after securing 3 points to 2 against Christchurch (Girls) in the penalty shootout.

Playing for the Plate trophy finals, D. S. Senanayake College won against Maristella College, 1 to nil and came second while Musaeus College defeated Visakha College with 1 point to nil and came second.

The schools that secured first place were the Boys champions, Christchurch College who won 3-nil against St. Aloysius Galle. The girls champions were revealed as Janadhipathi Balika who secured 4 points to nil against Sirimavo.
