Walala A. Rathnayake and St. Peter’s College, Colombo crowned overall Relay Champions.

Day 03 of the Annual All Island School Relay Championships concluded today (26th June 2018) at the Vincent Dias Stadium Badulla. Conducted by the Ministry of Education, this year athletes from all across the island managed to establish a total of 33 new meet records.

The overall Championships in the Boys category  was secured by St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitya with 7 new meet records adding up to a total of 118 points. The Peterites managed to maintain their winning streak in the Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 age groups championships. Royal College, Colombo 07 managed to creep in as the first runner up in the overall boys category with 79 points. They also managed to maintain Under 12 and Under 14 age group championships.

The Champions of Last year (2016) Walala A. Rathnayake M. M. V. was able to take the Girls overall Championship trophy and the overall Mixed Schools Championship trophy back home. The Girls from Walala A. Rathnayake made their mark in the middle distance events collecting 9 new meet records. They increased their scores with exclusive performances in all age groups above Under 16. The senior most athletes of the team in the Under 20 age group finished all the relays they participated in with new meet records. Adding on to their performance the young lads from Walala A. Rathnayake gathered their points once again in the middle distance events of 4x400m and 4x800m.

The young ladies from Sir John Kothalawala College came first runners up in the girls overall Championships. They managed to maintain the Under 18 girls Championship trophy with 2 new meet records in the 4x200m and medley relay. Sir John Kothalawala College also won the overall mixed championships for the second consecutive year.

Unlike the previous year where the event was held in Jaffna with unfavorable weather conditions on all three days, the athletes managed to uplift the standards of the event. This is evident in the magnificent performance by the athletes contributing to 33 new meet records with more teams beating the previous records held.
