8 teams came through from the Pre-Quarters of the Schools’ Under 13 Cricket League that was held yesterday at various grounds all-over the Island.

St. Joseph’s College vs S. Thomas’ College

St. Joseph’s College hosted S. Thomas’ at Maradana. Having won the toss, the home team decided to bat first and put up a total of 239 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 53 overs. Shevon Daniel made a brilliant 160 while Avintha Alwis chipped in with 46. In reply S. Thomas’ could only manage 143 runs with 9 wickets falling in 50 overs.

Mahanama College vs St. Anthony’s College

In their match against St. Anthony’s, the Mahanama batsmen stroked their way to 270 runs for the fall of only 2 wickets in 54.3 overs. Banula Algawatta top scored with an unbeaten 124 runs while Kavindu Amameth and Kujana Perera made half centuries. Kujana Perera had a good outing with the ball as well with figures of 4 for 38. Antonian reply was spearheaded by S. Mathew who made a century while R. Anthony chipped in with 62 runs.

St. Peter’s Colombo vs Tissa Central College

It was more of a bowler dominated game at the St. Peter’s College Grounds as the hosts took on Tissa Central. Having batted first, the Peterites could only put on 157 runs all out in 49 overs. Nimuthu Gunawardana top scored scoring the only half-century of the game. Tissa Central in reply managed just 87 runs. Shenon Rodrigo, Jude Dinal and Kavika Jayasundara ran through the Tissa Central batting order picking up 2 wickets each.

Royal College managed to drag themselves over in their Pre-Quarter final against a tough Joseph Vaz team. Having won the toss, Royal made 195 runs for the fall of 7 wickets. Sanmidu Senaratharachchi made an unbeaten century. In reply Joseph Vaz could only manage 170/6 at the end of the day’s play, giving Royal the opportunity to advance through with bonus points.

Trinity College vs St. John’s College

Trinity College (B) lost their Pre-quarter final against St. John’s College Jaffna in Jaffna. Trinity were bundled out for 160 runs in 53.5 overs after they were put into bat by the St. John’s team. The hosts made 170 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of the day to earn themselves the victory. Tharana Dalanidu was the top scorer for Trinity while Y Vidushan spearheaded the bowling attacking for St. John’s with 3 scalps to his name.
