St Joseph’s Enderamulla crowned U15 Division II champions

St Joseph’s College, Enderamulla B won on first innings against Prince of Wales B in the final of the Singer U15 Division II cricket tournament at Campbell Park. 

The boys from Moratuwa won the toss and elected to bat first. They weren’t allowed to build any partnerships throughout as the bowlers kept things tight by taking wickets at regular intervals. St Joseph’s skipper Isuru Pinto bagged 5 wickets for 32 runs which helped St Joseph’s bundle out their opponents for just 112 runs in 49.5 overs. Shaveen Kosala top scored with 28 runs while Sashika Umayanga and Dallas Gunasekara bagged two wickets each for St Joseph’s.

In reply, the Josephians put up an outstanding performance with the bat. Skipper Isuru Pinto and Pasindu Jayath helped the team over the line as they put on 130 runs for the 1st wicket. Pasindu scored a valuable half century while skipper Isuru made a wonderful century to go with his five wicket haul. The most exciting innings came from middle order batsman Shadhika Umayanga who scored a blistering knock of 113 in just 81 balls with 13 boundaries and 6 sixes. At the end of play St Joseph’s were on 401 for 7 which gave them a convincing first innings victory and the title for 2016.
