U15 Schools Basketball

The finals of the girls under 15 All Island Basketball Championship was recently held at the St. Joseph’s College, Nugegoda basketball courts. The final was worked off between tournament host St. Joseph’s College and St. Bridget’s Convent with the former emerging victorious. In the third place playoff Holy Family Convent beat St. Lawrence Convent.

St. Joseph’s College v St. Bridget’s Convent

After 2 months of intense basketball the finals was the most anticipated match as everyone was waiting to see if St. Joseph’s unbeaten run could be ended. St. Bridget’s coming into the game confident was able to put up a good fight in the first quarter as they kept the Josephina’s in check. In the second quarter coach Selva switched gears for the girls from Nugegoda as they started to run away with the game.

Half Time – SJC 32 – 10 SBC

With the second half under way things started heading north for the Bridgetians as they kept missing shots on offense and letting the Josephinas score with much ease. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Bridgetians were able to score only 2 points. Things kept getting bad to worse as the excitement in the Nugegoda camp was sensing the end of the game with their unbeatable streak intact.  With the final whistle blown the whole court erupted with much jubilation.
