Here’s a brief look into a few matches which took today in the Singer U19 Div I cricket tournament. 

St Peter’s College vs Maris Stella College 

Peterite Anishka Perera made up for his missed opportunity in the last match as he reached his first century for the season against Maris Stella at home grounds. Peterites won the toss and elected to bat first. Anishka who opens batting for St Peter’s gave a good start for the home side. He got some good support from Shalith Fernando who scored a valuable 77 in the top order. Skipper Lakshina Rodrigo was yet again amongst the runs with an unbeaten 68 as St Peter’s declared their innings at 290 for 5 in 62 overs. 

Maris Stella at stumps was 94 for 3 in 32 overs with Lasith Croospulle unbeaten on 43 at the crease.

Bandaranayke College, Gampaha vs St Sebastian College, Katuneriya

Sheshan Udara’s five wicket haul for St Sebastian’s helped them to secure first innings points against Bandaranayake on the first day at Katuneriya. Visitors were put to bat first and they were bundled out for just 143 in 61.2 overs. Seshan’s figures stood at 5 for 31 while Ashen Charuka and Dilshan Pramod chipped in with 2 wickets each. Arosha Madushan scored a valuable knock of 51 for the visitors. 

In reply, the home side got over the line with ease and at stumps they were 174 for 6 in 33 overs.

Royal College vs Mahinda College 

The Group B clash between these two sides kicked off today at the Galle International Stadium. Royal College won the toss and elected to bat first but they could only post a moderate total of 205 in 58.4 overs. Reshan Kavinda bagged 4 wickets for Mahinda while Ganith Sandeepa top scored with 52 for the visitors. 

At stumps, Mahinda College were in a spot of bother at 98 for 4.

St Joseph’s College vs D.S. Senanayake College 

The Josephians put up a good all round performance on day 1 in their traditional encounter with DSS at Maradana. DSS won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side lost some early wickets but they managed to recover through a good partnership between Pahan Perera and Jehan Fernandopulle. Jehan’s knock of 86 came off 111 balls while Pahan carried his good form from the previous match and scored a valuable 63.   St Joseph’s managed to post 286 in 71.4 overs. Vihan Gunasekara stood out with the ball in hand with a five wicket haul for the visitors. 

At stumps, DSS were crumbling at 69 for 6 with speedster Ruchira Ekanayke taking three scalps with the new ball.
