St. Anthony’s favorites against St. Servatius for the U17 title

St. Anthony’s College Katugastota will take on St. Servatius’ College, Matara in the Singer Schools U17 Division I limited over final on the 30th of August at Moors grounds, Colombo.

St. Anthony’s College Katugastota have qualified to the final after 11 long years. The lads from Katugastota were runners up in the year 2006 under the leadership of all-rounder Sahan Palihakkara, while St. Servatius College, Matara have advanced to the final of this tournament for the first time.

St. Anthony’s Katugastota managed to notch up wins against St. Thomas Matale, Kegalu Vidyalaya, Sri Rahula Katugastota, Vidyartha Kandy, St. Sylvester’s Kandy and Sri Sumangala Kandy in the 1st round, while losing to Dharmaraja College, Kandy.

St. Anthony’s Katugastota qualified to the second round as the runner up of their group in the first round and they were good enough to win all the three matches against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, Tissa MMV Kalutara and their opponent in the final St. Servatius Matara in the second round.

St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota qualified to the pre-quarter final round as the group toppers in the second round. They overcame Isipathana College Colombo in the pre-quarter final and they beat defending champions St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in the quarter final, while they had a convincing win against Royal College by 4 wickets in the semi-final to get closer to the U17 title.

Theeksha Gunasinghe will lead the St. Anthony’s outfit and Thamashana Abeykoon will assist him as the deputy. The experience of Sampath Perera will guide them as their head coach and they will be eyeing on their 1st ever U17 title.

St. Servatius College, Mataraasdsad

St. Servatius College, Matara managed to win games against Vidyaloka Galle, Richmond Galle, Devapathiraja Rathgama, P. de S. Kularatne Ambalangoda and St. Aloysius Galle in the 1st round and they lost to Dharmasoka Ambalangoda.

St. Servatius, Matara came in as the group toppers in the first round and they won two matches against Maliyadeva Kurunegala and Tissa MMV Kalutara and they lost to their opponent in the final St. Anthony’s Katugastota in the second round.

The lads from Matara qualified to the pre-quarters as the runners up of their group in the second round and they overcame much-fancied Ananda College Colombo in the pre-quarters and beat S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia in the quarter final and managed to win a thriller against Nalanda College Colombo by 11 runs to enter the U17 finals in style.

All-rounder Keshara Nuwantha will lead St. Servatius outfit and Shashika Dulshan will assist him as the deputy and Priyantha Abeysekara will guide them with coaching duties.
