St. Anthony’s College, Kandy beat St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa by 4 wickets in the quarter final of the Singer U17 Division 1 Cricket Tournament at the Kadirana grounds, Negombo to qualify for the semi-finals.

St. Sebastian’s winning the toss elected to bat first in this 50 over match, hoping to put their opponents under pressure from the beginning. St. Sebastian’s was off to a flying start thanks to Nishitha Abilash (54), however with the loss of Nishitha things started to go south for the boys from Moratuwa as they loss wicket after wicket. Gihan Achitha and Thamashana Abeykoon sharing 7 wickets amongst themselves. At the 46th over, the Moratuwa lads were bowled out for a paltry 135 runs.

In the second innings of the day, St. Anthony’s College was off to a bad start as it was evident that the conditions were suitable for bowlers. Theeksha Gunasinghe and Navodya Wijekumara steadied the boat for the Kandy boys as they produced a match winning partnership. After the wicket of Theeksha, Thamashana Abeykoon came to the crease to win the game for the Kandyan boys with an all-round performance to reach the target of 136 runs with 6 wickets down.
