Commercial Credit's Men's and Women's teams last Wednesday night (26 February) emerged winners in an exciting and nail-biting finale at the Mercantile 5 a side Basketball Championships at the Otters Aquatic Club, Basketball Courts.

Union Assurance PLC riding on their skipper, Roshan Randima's experience and Isuru Perera's robust performance, lifted the 7th Ram Ratnavale Memorial Challenge Trophy.

A strong battle, magnificent piece of basketball and a breathtaking game: the Carlton Cup finals close up leaving Colombo Basketball Club runners up while HSC Blues takes on the trophy.

Colombo B and Royal’s battle end with a very close victory for Colombo B

Defying the general perspective towards a typical D Division the matches were pretty tight and all were taking a very solid approach towards the victories.

The Division 2 group B was dominated by the Anandians. The first match they played itself proved how strong they were:  a victory by 25 points against Green’s B (61 -36).

Colombo B taking on Jaffna kicked off an unusual start for the division 2 Group 'A'. Being an outstation team Jaffna was very opportunistic of taking on the A group competition.

Winning the jump-ball off to a healthy start were the HSC Blacks. Following K keyser, T. Nithushan was the one to get the Blacks on the score board first: not with 2 points but with 4 points with a follow up two pointers by Nithushan himself.

The start itself was furious. A. Rajakaruna won the jump ball start for Sri Lanka Navy and C. Perera instantly was at the ring aiming for 2 points, but it was a near miss.

It was an event to reminisce in Basketball history.  The best of the best divided themselves to compete.
