Sri Lankan Wheel Chair Tennis Team Taking Part In World Team Cup

The Sri Lankan WCT team which consists of 3 members left the island on 17 May to take part in Invacare World Team Cup to be held from 20 – 26 May in Antalya Turkey.

The team consists of Top ranking players Gamini placed 77 and Rajakaruna placed 85 in the world rankings. With their combined experience and their performances which are much higher during the past months a lot is expected.

National Coach Jagath Welikala  will be the coach and Sri Lanka is expected to fare well in the competition where 24 countries are taking part in the event. 

The secretary of WCT stated that the team was very confident and they will perform well and Rajakaruna and Gamini’s performances will be monitored since they have made an impression to other countries and have secured the highest ever ranking in Sri Lankan Tennis in the International Ranking where both of them had beaten top players in the  last World Cup and secured 3rd place.

The team format is two singles and a double. Sri Lanka is placed in a groupd with Australia, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Spain, Germany, Croatia, Isreal, Greece, and Nigeria.
