Sri Lanka Women went down by 9 wickets in their 2nd T20I against Australia at the North Sydney Oval earlier today.

Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to take 1st lease of what was expected to be a flat wicket. Tayla Vlaeminck got proceedings started for the hosts and was immediately successful, removing Yasoda Mendis in the 1st over of the game. Megan Schutt struck again soon after to reduce Sri Lanka to 18/2 at the end of the 5th over, giving the hosts a perfect start.

The early wickets saw Sri Lanka’s centurion from the last game, skipper Chamari Atapattu, look to survive rather than go for her shots, a ploy that had proved so successful at the same venue yesterday. The Aussies were wary of Atapattu and after a couple of overs of tight bowling, managed to produce a run-out to send the powerful left hander back to the pavilion.

With Atapattu gone, Sri Lanka could muster little resistance with only Harshitha Samarawickrama, Ama Kanchana and Shashikala Siriwardene managing to get to double figures as the visitors finished on 84/8 in their 20 overs.

The Australian openers got off to another blistering start before the game was finished off by Erin Burns. Alyssa Healy, playing her 100th T20I, was the only one to be dismissed, falling for a 14-ball 21 to Udeshika Prabodini.

The Aussies got to the target in just 9.4 overs, sealing the win and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. The final game will be played at the same venue on Wednesday.
