Kagiso Rabada grabbed 10 wickets to bowl South Africa to a convincing 282-run win over Sri Lanka in the second Test on day four at Newlands in Cape Town.

The Proteas wrapped up the match in the opening session as the visitors were crushed with more than one and half days to spare. South Africa took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with the third and final game to be played in Johannesburg starting on 12th January.

Resuming day four on 130, Sri Lanka lost Dinesh Chandimal when he clipped a Rabada delivery straight to square leg as the 75-run stand for the 5th wicket came to an end. Upul Tharanga collected all his 12 runs off boundaries before edging behind to give Rabada’s fourth scalp of the innings. Skipper Angelo Mathews fell in the same over unfortunately on 49 as Rabada completed his fifth five-wicket haul.

Rangana Herath delayed the inevitable defeat scoring an unbeaten 35 off 45 balls but ran out of partners as the hosts took out the remaining tail. Rabada had Suranga Lakmal caught behind to complete his second 10-wicket haul, 10 for 92 in only his 13th match.

There was a flurry of strokes from Herath and Lahiru Kumara, who put on 33 for the 9th wicket before Keshav Maharaj and Vernon Philander wrapped up South Africa’s win. Pradeep’s stumps were rattled off Philander as Sri Lanka suffered another humiliating defeat.

Amid the victory celebrations, Kyle Abbott has probably played his last Test match for South Africa after reports emerged that he would take a Kolpak Deal to play for Hampshire.
