Sri Lanka came from 2 sets down to win the next 3 sets against Uzbekistan to strengthen their chances of finishing in 9th place at the 2nd Asian Men’s u23 Volleyball Championship in Ardabil, Iran.

Sri Lanka goes down fighting to Thailand

Sri Lanka lost to Japan in straight sets and needed to win against Thailand to make it to the top 8 battle. They had a very good start winning the opening set but lost the next three sets and had to settle for the 9th-11th place battle against Australia and Uzbekistan.

Sri Lanka had a disastrous opening two sets losing both 25-20 and 25-16. However the islanders staged a remarkable comeback to win the 3rd set in a thrilling 24-26.

In the 4th set Sri Lanka led by two points at 6-8 and extended it to three at 13-16. Uzbekistan made a comeback to equalize 25-25 but Sri Lanka piped them 26-28 to set up a deciding 5th set.

Again Sri Lanka led 3-6 in the 5th set and held off the late challenge to win 14-16. Sri Lanka will now meet Australia to decide who will finish in 9th place.
