The Editor of the Daily Mirror, through its Sports Editor had taken exception to a comment made by Dimuth Karunaratne at a post match press conference in Sydney.
SLC checked with the Team Manager and this is what he had to say about the incident:-
“In respect of Dimuth’s comment at the interview, I wish to clarify what the player meant and wanted to say was that the team received several inquiries from Daily, News papers with regard to Rangana’s bizarre news item.
He had no intention of singling out any particular paper or institution and it was a genuine mistake and comment made on spur of the moment.
On behalf of Dimuth, I wish to apologize for the mistake and regret very much if any inconvenience caused to Daily Mirror or any other party.
