Super 7’s coming to Kandy

The premier 7’s tournament of the Island, Sri Lanka Super 7’s will be played over two legs, first in Kandy on the 8th and 9th of July and the second in Colombo on the 15th and 16th of July.

Last years edition was the first of it’s nature and was played at the Race Course grounds in the form of two legs. The glamorous sevens series had the presence of 8 teams representing franchises.

The tournament had the flair of overseas players that increased the hype throughout the two legs of the tournament.

Mobitel Eagles emerged victorious of the franchise segment while Isipathana College bagged the school’s segment.

Sri Lanka’s premier sports promoter, Dialog Axiata have decided to take the tournament to the Hill Country with intentions of expanding rugby more, in Kandy.

This year Sri lanka Rugby in collaboration with the organizers will be taking the first leg of the Sri Lankan Super 7s to Kandy. This is one of the agendas on the initiative to take the sport beyond the vicinity of colombo.

Earlier the Carlton Super 7s did the same by playing legs in both Galle and Kandy. Kandy no doubt, is one of the most rugby frenzied cities in the country.

Nittawela will play host to the first leg of the super 7s series this year and a superior blend of sevens rugby is expected to take the island this july.

The finale will take place on the 15th and 16th of July at the Race Course in which the winner of the tournament will be decided.
