The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) announced a 23-player squad for the AFC U16 Women’s Championship 2019 Qualifiers which will begin on 15th September.

Pitted against tough teams from China, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Guam in group A the Sri Lanka U16 women’s team will play in home soil for the first time.
The team which took part in the recently concluded SAFF U15 Women’s Championship has couple of new faces. Despite a poor showing in the SAFF U15, Sri Lanka’s Head Coach Mohamed Ajwad is looking for an improved performance.
Head coach Mohamed Ajwad had this to say:
“We are expecting to perform better than we performed in the SAFF tournament. Sri Lankan team doesn’t have enough international experience and SAFF Tournament was their first international exposure.
We could identify our weaknesses in that tournament and we are hoping to rectify them in this coming event. Also, this will be a great opportunity for our Sri Lankan Team.”
The team is led by Kavindi Jayakodi of Kavisigamuwa MV- Kurunegala and assisted by Sandaruwani Bandara of Bandiwewa MV – Polannaruwa. Both of whom also lead the U15 team to the SAFF championship.

Vinuki Shanelka of Gateway Intl Colombo and Rasuni Sanwadana of Kegalu BV Kegalle are two inclusions to the previous squad which took part in the SAFF U15.
