After having gone down to South Africa in their opening encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy over the weekend, Sri Lanka were back in training yesterday at the Lord’s Cricket Grounds.

With stand-in skipper Upul Tharanga suspended for the next two games, it was heartening to see skipper Angelo Mathews back in the nets. Here are some of the moments captured by ThePapare.com’s very own Sameera Pieris during the team’s training session in London.

1  Captain Marvel is back!

Angelo Mathews will be back to lead the Lankans in their all-important clash against India on Thursday.

3  Putting plans in place.

With Sri Lanka’s campaign hampered by injury and suspension, the coaching staff have no doubt had to formulate new plans. Pictured here is Coach Graham Ford speaking to the entire squad ahead of training.

4  No short-cuts to success.

After making just 11 against the South Africans in Sri Lanka’s opener, Kusal Mendis sweats it out at training, putting in the extra work to raise his game.

5  Eyes on the prize

6  A reversal of roles

With Sri Lanka seriously short of bowling options, batsman Kusal Mendis flexes his arm with a little bit of leg spin while his bowling counter-parts Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep get ready to have a hit.

7  A post retirement modeling career for Mali?
