Three games in the second round of the Singer U17 Division 1 Tournament 2019 drew to a close today, 08th August 2019 in low-scoring encounters.

Royal College, Colombo vs Gurukula College, Kelaniya

Royal College recorded a thumping win over Gurukula College at Reid Avenue. The hosts won the toss and put their opponents to bat first.

It was a wreck with the bat for the boys from Kelaniya as the Royal bowlers feasted over the batting line-up.

Sithija Chamod was the only batsman who looked convincing with a hard-earned 40 while none other batsmen made noteworthy performances.

Prashan Kalhara was the chief of the wicket-takers with figures of 3 for 25. Sonal Amarasekara and Tharusha Rukshan was brilliant with the ball with 2 wickets each.

Royalists went past the line with ease in just 15 overs even though they lost 3 wickets along the way. They stand at a very comfortable position in the tournament with this win and look determined for the championship.

D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo vs Maris Stella College, Negombo

The game was revised as a 48-over affair due to the delay in the start caused by wet conditions. Maris Stella College hosted the boys from Colombo 7 in their own backyard. As per the norms the home skipper won the toss and invited D.S. Senanayake College to bat first to take maximum use of the Parabola method anticipating more rain.

But the weather gods were polite enough to let the kids complete the game. The Senanayakians were bundled out for 128 runs by the hosts with 2 overs to go in the innings. Danuka Adithya was spot on as he wrapped a fifer for just 39 runs. Thenuka Silva was the only successful batsman in the house for the Negombo school with a half-century to his name.

It was a poor reply from the home team. None of the batsman managed to go past the 20-run mark. Lashan Gunarathne picked up 4 wickets for 25 runs to top the bowling card. The Negombo school managed just 83 runs handing a 45-run victory to the visitors.
