The preliminary rounds of ThePapare Basketball Championship 2018 (TPBC18) continued at the Gateway College, Basketball Complex. Presbyterian Girls National School (PGS) emerged winners while Ave Maria Convent (AMC) were given a walk over since Dharmashoka Vidyalaya did not participate.

PGS took control of the game from the tip off and wasted no time in securing the lead in an evenly contested affair. Ishadhi Wathsala scored 14 points for the winners while Liyara Malmi was the top scorer of the match, scoring 17 points for SBV.

It was only during the 2nd quarter that Sirimavo Banadaranayake Vidyalaya (SBV) settled into the game, tightening their defense. But it did not halt PGS’s offensive possessions. SBV managed to keep up to PGS’s scoring rate and managed to score 07 points in the 2nd quarter, trailing by 6 points going into lemons.

The second half of the game was owned by PGS, outscoring SBV in both quarters as they managed to dominate the game. SBV struggled on the offense. Their poor offensive performance throughout the game left them trailing PGS at the final whistle.
