Lyceum International School – Wattala; A force to reckon with

Lyceum International School – Wattala played against Gateway College Kandy to commence the girl`s matches on the first weekend of the Inter-International Basketball Championship 2016. It was a walk in the park for the girls from Wattala triumphing over Gateway 67-15.

LISW tapped on the jump ball but failed in their maiden offensive possession and a couple of more to follow on. Yet they managed to strike first with a mid-range jumper. The opponents lacked game-awareness and they dished out a few passes to the team LISW team members confusing their own. It was a tough ask to match up to LISW in the first quarter with countless mistakes which let GCK trail the game by 12 points.

First Quarter: Lyceum International School – Wattala – 18 Gateway College – Kandy- 04

LISW kept on the scoring momentum as they began ticking the scoreboard in the second quarter as well.   Almost all the attempted shots of GCK were air-balls as the target was way off. GCK defense was out of shape as the opponents penetrated through to score twenty-five points. In reply GCK only added three points for the entire quarter as the score remained at single digits fort them.

LISW led the by forty-six points at the end of the third quarter putting GCK far out of reach. It was the defense that was sloppy and eventually the pressure was transferred back to the offensive phases. The third quarter scoreboard 57-11 in favor of LISW.  

GCK only managed to add only a couple of baskets in the final six hundred seconds. LISW by then had gone past them and crossed the white line with a comfortable lead of fifty-four points.
