Mr. Brinthan, a member of the organizing committee speaking with ThePapare.com said, “We wanted to create more enthusiasm in the tournament and we believe schools is where the passion lies and enthusiasm erupts. Giving prominence to children will also help the future of basketball and we expect it to be a fierce and tough competition”.
Herbert Cup, the tournament was initiated seven years ago as a tribute to Rev.Fr. Eugene Herbert, who has rendered an immeasurable service for the sport in the paradise island. During the time of Rev. Fr. Herbert, St. Michael`s College’s Basketball developed from scratch to a legacy.
They emerged champions of the Junior National Tournament on six occasions out of where three championships were won consecutively in 1986, 1987 and 1988. It is recorded as an accomplishment no other team has achieved thus far.
